Send an enquiryMaking sure your tiling mortar is in good condition and keeping the rain out is essential for the long life of your roof.
Broken or missing mortar lets rain cause hidden damage before it becomes obvious, and that can end up costing thousands of dollars to repair. Affordable Roofing can help by repointing any damaged mortar and making sure your home stays watertight.
On a tiled roof, the ridge and hip tiles sit on a bed of mortar, finished with pointing that seals the joins. Sun, temperature changes and the movement of the house all crack that pointing over time, and coastal wind finds every gap. Roof repointing removes the loose and failing material and replaces it with a fresh, flexible seal so the caps sit tight and the weather stays out.

Fine cracks along the ridge line or where the ridge caps meet the tiles.
Caps that rock or have shifted out of line.
Crumbs of old mortar washing down into gutters and onto paths.
Water stains along the top of an inside wall or near the centre of the ceiling.
Repointing is best done in settled weather so the new pointing can cure properly, which is worth keeping in mind if you would rather plan ahead than wait for a leak.
It also pairs well with other work. If the roof has moss on it, cleaning first lets the new pointing bond to a clean surface, and any cracked tiles found along the ridge can be replaced at the same visit. While the ridges are being done, the rest of the roof is checked too.
Loose and crumbling mortar is cleared away from the ridges and hips.
Ridge caps that have lifted are rebedded so they sit firm.
A fresh, flexible pointing seal is applied and finished neatly.
Quality workmanship, built to last
Most roofs need more than one thing looked at. While Phill is up there, he can check the rest of the roof and let you know if anything else needs attention.
